ISO 9001 is an International Quality Standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a worldwide federation of national standards bodies representing over 120 countries.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the new edition of ISO 9001 in December 2000, which replaced the 1994 edition of the ISO 9001 standards as well as ISO 9002 and ISO 9003.
The new Standard takes a more generic approach towards all industry sectors rather than manufacturing based focus of the previous editions. The structure of the new ISO 9001:2000 Standard takes on the model of Plan, Do, Check, Act based on the 8 Quality Management System (QMS) Principles.
ISO 9001 can be applied at any type and size of organization, from small family-run businesses to large corporate and government institutions.
When implemented effectively it provides a flexible framework for a customer focused business management system to continuously improve business performance and growth. |
