COMPANIES WITH AS9120 CERTIFICATES ARE A BOON FOR THE AVIATION INDUSTRY (DEMO)

Aerospace and aviation companies may finally have access to even more spare parts, now that some machining companies are looking to get into the business as well. According to The Business Journal, manufacturing companies are currently pursuing certification that would allow them to become aerospace parts suppliers within country and abroad. As they are manufacturers, these companies are specifically pursuing AS9100C and ISO 9001:2008 certificates. On the other hand, distributors of spare parts are required to have an AS9120 certificate before they can be allowed to get in on the action. Whether they are manufacturers or distributors, however, interested companies can only receive their certificates from accredited certification bodies, like International Standards Authority Inc. AS9120 is part of the much larger International Aerospace Industry Quality Management Standards which aims to guarantee aviation and aerospace companies with reliable access to high-quality parts and equipment. Another standard, dubbed AS9110, is designed for companies who offer maintenance and repair of said parts and equipment. Although some may see guidelines required by these standards as restrictions that can hinder the growth of a business, many people see the importance of AS9120 and its other “siblings”. For one, companies who successfully completes AS9120 certification process are held in high-regard by others in the industry simply because not everybody can easily get this distinction.. Not only is it demanding, but certification also takes a long time. Furthermore, companies with the AS certificates are expected to consistently meet high standards and follow certain protocols like traceability in all of their transactions. AS9120 also has specific guidelines for filing, storing, and accessing sales records which are only known to those who have them. These added responsibilities don’t seem to mind the soon-to-be aviation parts manufacturers, however, as local aviation and aerospace companies are actually looking forward to do business with the certified organizations. After all, aircraft operators, producers, and retailers no longer have to go far and wide just to look for a spare parts manufacturer. It’s essentially a win-win scenario: the parts manufacturers and distributors gain more business while the aviation companies can now simplify their logistics. All it takes is the right AS certificate to get there… and yes, plenty of patience.
